Long Tall Sally: Popping up in Amsterdam

Long Tall Sally Pop Up-1981Generally, my capital city is not short of tall women as it is, but this weekend, there was a small invasion in Amsterdam.
Long Tall Sally was present with a pop-up shop, and that had gotten to the attention of quite a few of us. I obviously found my way here as well, and when waiting for my tall cousin in the lounge of the hotel where the event was hosted, I saw a few jaws drop when tall ladies kept coming in one after another. I scored a cute pink basic top and had a chat with one of the lovely LTS ladies to ask her when LTS is going to open a shop in NL…

When I arrived around 30 mins after opening, already, there were queues at both the fitting rooms and at check out. It was busy (and warm) in the room. Tops were being fitted outside the changing rooms too and the lovely LTS ladies were trying to help everyone efficiently (in charming British; ‘yes Darling / are you OK, Love? / Do you need a different size , Dear?’). Some ladies travelled for two hours to get to Amsterdam especially for this event, so they didn’t mind queueing for 10/15 mins at check out, and they patiently waited while chatting about issues we all encounter when shopping.

The room was packed with endless amounts of clothing
(which of course is quite handy at a clothing pop up shop πŸ˜‰ )…

There were shoes in various styles and more importantly…

… in various bigger sizes…

I heard sighsΒ of relief around me about the generous length of trousers and sleeves.

After browsing around for a bit, one of the LTS ladies managed to get away from her spot to chat to me. Overwhelmed by the amount of Tall Dutchies who showed up (they were queueing to get in an hour before opening I was told), LTS was pleased to be back in NL. Though this event was hosted here earlier this year in Amsterdam as well, it was much busier already on day one so far. There clearly is demand for tall clothing here, which isn’t surprise with the amount of tall ladies in NLΒ (to state the obvious).

AΒ new LTS shop will soon be opened in Hamburg (Germany), so they are busy with setting that up as we speak. Yet there is no sign at this point of one being opened in NL… A comment I heard repeatedly is that quite a few customers want to see the items and feel the fabrics before buying it, so not the entire Dutch clientele is comfortable yet with online shopping. I hope that the success of this pop-up proves that NL definitely ‘needs’ a shop of its own (are you reading with me, LTS? πŸ˜‰ ). For now, we are bound to either online shopping,Β taking occasional trips across the North Sea to the UK or hopping over to neighbouring Germany.

I think LTS was warmly welcomed to NL and I hope this will not go unnoticed at LTS HQ. For the next pop up shop (and due to what seemed to be a success this time), I’d say the event deserves a bit more space to add just a little bit of extra shopping comfort, and perhaps an extra till, or maybe two. πŸ™‚

Great write-up and photos! Sounds like quite the scene. I’d be very curious to see how all of the other existing brick-and-mortart tall shops in NL stack up against the LTS line. Maybe you and I need to do that road trip to all of them to find out. πŸ™‚

I have no excuse NOT to visit the other shops in NL and compare, but yes, it would be waaay more fun to do it together! πŸ™‚

What an experiece to attend to a LTS pop up shop. I can imagine how crowded the place was after some minutes opened. As you, I think the NLs need a LTS shop and now that we’re asking.. why not another in Barcelona too? I’m tired of explaining to unknown women in the metro where do I get my clothes… a Tall shop would be more than welcome! πŸ™‚ Thans for sharing your LTS visit, as far as I’ve read in other tall blogs, they’re a complete succes! All the support for a LTS shop in the NLs!!!!
    HAve a great weekend Karen!
