I decided to take a weekday off, just because I can. I work full-time and I have never taken any days just to spent them at home. I had a few compensation days however, due to duty travel in weekends, and now seemed a good time. I was only going to take Friday off, but then my car broke down, so I took Thursday off as well to take it to the garage. I am basically having a 4 day weekend, which is kind of like a mini-break. And since the Hobbit is abroad with a friend at the moment, it is proper me-time as well. A me-ni break so to speak. 🙂
Being off on a weekday is a luxury to me. It’s up there with spa treatments and going to my favourite restaurant; it’s a treat basically. No alarm, yet waking up early enough not to waste the day. Going to the gym when it is not packed with growling meat heads, but with friendly elderly people. Doing some shopping when there’s space to park your car and no queue at the fitting rooms. Having lunch on my own at Vroeg, choosing the shrimp croquettes AND ordering a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with it, ’cause who cares?
I treated myself to some small luxuries that just make life more fun, for roughly the same money as an overnight stay in an average hotel in any European capital city. Money I didn’t spent as I’m doing my break at home (or whatever it is I tell myself to justify my spending… ;)).
- My favourite showergel: Rituals Zensation. It smells heavenly, and the shower gel changes into a lovely rich foam the minute it comes in contact with water.
- A lovely cheese from my local cheese shop: farmer’s truffle cheese. I love the earthy tastes of truffle, mushrooms, etc. so this is a real treat.
- Organic apple-elderberry juice; no additives, just fruit juice. Yum.
- A new handbag which I found at a small boutique. In fact, 2 new handbags, as they were on sale, so I got 2 for the price of 1. My current one is getting really scruffy, so I was quite pleased with my find. 🙂
Apart from treating myself, I also spent a portion of my time wisely, reading a bit more about this blogging adventure that I got myself into, checking out some other blogs for inspiration and reading up on tips and tricks.
So there you go, who says you need to travel to have a relaxing mini-break?
