Awesome Tall Girls Part IV: Famke Janssen

Famke-Janssen-the-farm-4296010-904-1200It’s time to put the spotlight on another awesome tall girl. A fellow Dutchy this time, who has beauty, brains and an impressive Hollywood career. She has a bachelor’s degree in arts, and she has starred opposite Pierce Brosnan, Liam Neeson and Hugh Jackman to name a few. She is one of the few Dutch actors who have ever starred in any James Bond film (funnily enough, two of whom played a supporting role as a Russian Villain). I am talking about Famke Janssen, who stands an impressive 5’11 and a half (1.82m).

Obviously, I am a bit biased as she gets bonus points for being a fellow Dutchy.
We don’t have to many Dutch actresses or actors walking around in Hollywood who have achieved what Famke has.

I like the fact that she kept her typical Dutch name, which in old Frisian (a language spoken in one of our provinces up North) means ‘Little Girl’. Well, she is a lot of things, but little ain’t one of them. One of the things that comes with being tall: the lady has big feet. For a few films, Goldeneye is one of them, they had to have shoes custom-made in her size US11.

Like me, Famke speaks various language; Dutch, English, French and a bit of German. In NL, languages are part of our curriculum during the first 3 years of secondary school. Apparently, she is the Dutch language narrator for the studio tram tours in Disney parks. See, there’s a fun fact you can impress your friends with at dinner parties.

Another one of those facts: her dog is called licorice, which is a very common candy in NL (licorice, not dogs 😉 ). She appeared with her dog in a 2007 PETA campaign to raise awareness for animal rights. Other side job: in 2008, she was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for Integrity for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

So another very inspiring lady who has stayed true to herself, embraces her height, and rather than letting this get in the way of her career, she turned it around and used her unique tall features in a positive way.
