Recently, I had the pleasure of connecting with another entrepreneurial woman who started her own fashion brand. I met up with Selma Duinkerken, founder of Tubino, specialising in quality pencil skirts and dresses. Selma gave up a successful career in finance to take the plunge and start her own business in fashion; inspirational to say the least. Selma believes that every woman is unique and beautiful, and she wants to help us to look our very best, regardless of our shape or size.
Just like us tall girls, Selma too is familiar with the struggles of finding clothes that fit when you don’t have an ‘off-the-peg’size, albeit from the exact opposite perspective: Selma is gorgeously petite. Because she has personally experienced this shop-frustration too, all her pieces can be made to measure if so desired, and of course, she offers ‘standard’ sizes too.
The style of Tubino is feminine and sexy yet in a classy and modest way, whatever your size is. Perfect fit, personal advice and quality materials is what Selma aims for with her brand. The majority of her skirts and dresses have an edgy zipper on the back, but if you prefer it without, that’s possible too.
The choice in color is endless and for just a small extra fee you can add a personal touch to your pieces: extra length? No issue. Different color zipper? Consider it done. This enables you to have a personalised staple piece that will last you a lifetime, perfectly fitted to your needs and your unique style.
I was actually in the market for a black pencil skirt because you can never go wrong with black, but the minute I walked into the showroom of Tubino, this pink skirt started flirting with me. I HAD to try it on, and I fell for it head over heels, instantly. I needed some adventure and color in my wardrobe anyway, and this does the trick! 🙂
The skirt is figure hugging and very comfortable to wear, perfectly hiding the bits I’m insecure about. It’s made of high quality Italian wool which feels amazing (yay for natural fabrics) and it’s ethically sourced and manufactured. For those of you brave enough, there’s an edgy leather version too that’s still very classy. It’s a very versatile piece and even my bright pink one pairs with so many more colours than I thought!
It’s office-ready paired with the right classy blouse and dinner date-ready when paired with a chic top. I will show you various ways to wear it in another post.
If you want to learn more, check out www.tubino.nl. The site is in Dutch, but if even if you don’t speak Dutch, you will get an idea of the styles and of what is possible. If you struggle with the language, shoot me an e-mail (email@example.com) and I’ll happily guide you through it in English. Oh, and international delivery is possible too.
