What do you do when you find out that your holiday address is just an hour drive away from a tall fashion brand that you’ve been wanting to get to know better? Yep, you jump in your car, you face the challenge of driving on the left side (over beautiful country roads though) and you get your long legs over there. At least, that’s what I did, as I was very interested to learn more about Tallgirls.co.uk, one of the longer running tall brands out there.
I was warmly welcomed by the lovely founder of Tallgirls, Joanne, who is 6’3 herself. She started Tallgirls.co.uk in 1998 when she struggled with finding – in particular – shoes in her size. The frustration of having to adapt her choice of party dresses to whatever shoes she could find in size UK10 (and back then, choice was very limited…), led her to start her business.
After overwhelming response to her first mail order brochure selling shoes in bigger sizes from home, the demand for tall clothing became obvious too. A bigger warehouse and her own clothing line was a logical next step, and she’s been succesfully running her business from there since. Over time, she’s added a lovely and spacious fitting area with all the latest pieces and all sizes right there for you to try on.
Either Joanne or someone of her team (who she refers to as family) will be happy to help you finding the right pieces for you to try on.
Obviously, I was dying to try some items on myself; on my wish list was a denim jacket, so I was pleased to see Joanne had one in stock with lovely long sleeves!
Next were jeans to try on: ’36 inseam was too long for me, so this is ’34. I know, I know, my ’34 or ’36 is quite measly compared to some of you leggy ladies, but fear not, longer sizes than that are available.
While Joanne was looking for other styles jeans for me to try on, I found a lovely long cardi in the showroom to try on in the mean time. I LOVE a comfi cardi anytime of year, so when I put on the lightest, softest cardigan with sleeves this long, I was a happy tall girl. I can already see my hands wrapped around a cup of hot choc while wearing this cardi. Did someone say Iceland for Christmas? 🙂
If you’ve been following me for a bit longer, you know I love dresses to wear to work, so I had to try on the navy blue ‘shift style stretch dress with flattering side gathers and cap sleeves‘. The side gathers makes it flattering around the waist and the cap sleeves are the perfect solution if you are like me, and don’t like to go to the office with bare shoulders.
Tallgirls.co.uk ships worldwide, so you don’t even have to get off your sofa to get some of these lovely lengthy items in your closet. However, if you are near Alton, Hampshire (you can be there in an hour from London!), it’s way more fun to visit the showroom.
Make sure to book an appointment, and the lovely ladies of tallgirls.co.uk will be happy to help you. You’ll get a 10% discount on any items bought at the showroom too, so what are you waiting for? 🙂
